Chalice Bearers (Lay Eucharistic Ministers)
With a core group of about 20 dedicated parishioners, St. Davids' chalice bearers are a vital part of our worship services. Every Sunday two chalice bearers serve at each of the 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM services. They also serve at the special holiday worship services.
Chalice bearers (also known as Lay Eucharistic Ministers) distribute blessed wine to the congregation during communion. One of them at each service reads the Prayers of the People aloud. At the 8:00 AM Sunday services, and during other services when acolytes are absent, they also perform the acolytes' usual duties.
A schedule is issued every 6 months, and volunteers are responsible for any swaps that need to be made and for notifying the church office. New members are added at the Rector's discretion. This method of scheduling has been used for the past 8 to 9 years and seems to work very well.
If you would like to be a chalice bearer, call the church office or send an e-mail message.
