HABITAT FOR HUMANITY - SPOKANE
Habitat
for Humanity - Spokane is an ecumenical nonprofit Christian ministry
dedicated to bringing the affluent and less affluent together as a
community to build simple, decent, affordable housing for all God's
people in need. Habitat for Humanity:
- Provides homeownership for low-income families living in substandard conditions.
- Requires 500 hours of "sweat equity" as a down payment.
- Provides a 0% interest mortgage.
- Utilizes volunteer labor and donated materials.
- Makes a lasting impact on each family
For many years, St. David's parishioners have been involved with local HFH building projects. There are usually several homes under construction at any given time, and volunteers are always needed -- not only those with construction or remodeling skills, but also many other administrative types of volunteers.
Volunteers are especially needed during the annual Builders Blitz, to be held June 1-16, 2006. Plans for that period are to construct 3 homes from the ground up and finish 3 others currently under construction.
