SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANKEach year, St. David's donates thousands of pounds of
food to the Second Harvest Inland Northwest food bank, 1234 E. Front Ave. Each Sunday, parishioners bring food and
put it in the food basket in the narthex (just inside the front doors
of the church). A selection of the foods is brought forward as a
visible part of our offering at the 10:00 service every Sunday.
Food and financial donations are collected at church and taken to the Spokane Food Bank. Every Tuesday afternoon volunteers from St. David’s help sort donated foods at the Food Bank so they can be effectively distributed.

MEALS ON WHEELS
For more than 35 years, St. David’s members have volunteered with Meals on Wheels (Mid City Concerns, W. 1222 2nd Ave). Every four weeks, we furnish drivers for two daily routes in the northwest area of Spokane.
Hot meals are delivered Monday through Friday and each meal contains enough nutrition for an elderly person for a day. Frozen meals are also delivered one day per week, for people who need them on the weekends. In addition, supplements are occasionally delivered. The meals are prepared by a commercial off site kitchen and packaged
by route. The menus are prepared by Senior Nutrition for the all the senior meal
sites.
Initially, most of our volunteers were young mothers with children in school, and occasionally a working person would donate their lunch hour. At the present time, drivers are equally split between men and women and most of them are retired! Some of the same women who started driving so long ago are still dedicated to helping these elderly people remain in their homes by delivering Meals on Wheels.
CROP WALK
CROP WALKS are community-based events
to raise money for local hunger-fighting agencies and the international
relief and development efforts of Church World Service. Locally, they are sponsored by the Spokane Interfaith Council. The annual walk is held at the end of April, with a number of
St. David’s members participating. Greater Spokane's CROP Hunger Walk is an annual
10k walk-a-thon along the Centennial
Trail. It begins at south side of
Martin Centre at Gonzaga University
with noon registration and entertainment
(including activities for children). The 2005 Walk raised a $30,084 -- of that, 25% went to local organizations:
Second Harvest Food Bank, Interfaith
Hospitality Network, Spokane Valley
Meals on Wheels and Mid-City Concerns
Meals on Wheels. 75% of the donations
went to international relief programs
designated by the donors.
