Mother Elaine and Deacons Gaye and Char will be attending the diocesan clergy retreat. If you have an emergency or urgent matter, contact Jackie in the office (466-3100) or Elaine’s cell (499-4315).
Additionally, Elaine will be using some of her continuing education time to attend a workshop in Corbett, Oregon, Thursday through Sunday, February 9-12. The event is based on the work of Parker Palmer and will focus on discernment. The Rev. Jane Nelson-Low will be presiding and preaching on Sunday, February 12. Prayers are requested for safe travel. (EHB+)

Evening Prayer to be offered weekly
There will be an Evening Prayer service offered each Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the church, beginning February 7. This service will be led by lay leaders with the expressed purpose of praying for the leaders and staff of our congregation and to help support each of us as we live out our baptismal covenant.  Volunteers to lead this service are needed. Training can be available to those who wish. We will use both the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer and the  New Zealand Prayer Book for the service. To volunteer to help, or for more information, contact Jim Grady.

Book discussion groups beginning
Due to popular demand, book discussion groups are being organized by the Library Committee.  A type of social group, not a study group, members read the same book at home during the month, then gather in the Travis library at the end of the month to share. A daytime group coordinated by Ann Kauppi will meet on the fourth Friday of each month beginning Friday, February 24 from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. with members bringing their lunch if wished. An evening group coordinated by Theresa Brim will meet the fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. beginning on Monday, February 27.  During February, both groups will begin by reading "The Help," by Kathryn Stockett.

Sunday afternoon movie group forming
The Movie Group has been organized to attend movies that begin about 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Sundays, usually at the Village Centre Cinemas at Wandermere. For those who would like a late lunch/early dinner afterwards to visit and discuss the movie, local restaurants are located within walking distance. To be on the email list or to recommend a movie, contact Marcia O’Leary.

Opportunities for Lenten Renewal

St. David’s prayer time, daily at noon
We invite your participation in a Lenten prayer practice with the community of St. David’s, wherever you are, each day at noon, by saying this prayer from The Book of Common Prayer (page 832):
O God of peace, you have taught us that in returning and rest we shall be saved, in quietness and confidence shall be our strength: By the might of your Spirit lift us, we pray to your presence, where we may be still and know that you are God; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Contact Judith Scarborough or Mother Elaine if you have questions.

Lenten reflection reading group -- beginning Thursday, February 23 at 1:00 p.m.
This group will read the daily offerings by Martin Smith from the book, A Season for the Spirit. These readings are daily reflections on the season of Lent. This group will meet on Thursdays, 1:00 - 2:30 p.m., beginning February 23. The group is limited to eight participants so that everyone in the group has a chance to share about their own experience of the readings. A sign up sheet may be found at the Communications Center. The book for this group is available online. You may order the book yourself or I can order books for the group. The price varies depending on the source. This group will be convened by the Rev. Gaye Lagana. If you have a question about the group or the book, contact Gaye.

Exploring Prayer and Practice -- Wednesdays, Beginning February 29 at 7 p.m.
